These are the three openers David puts in most Twin Cities garages: the Premium 6690L, the Plus 6580L and the Basic 2220L. All three are LiftMaster’s newest Security+ 3.0 generation – DC motors, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a camera in the opener, and control from the myQ app. Installed, programmed and tested on your door, usually the same day.

Which LiftMaster is right for your garage?
David’s honest rule: bedroom above the garage or a detached garage you want to see on your phone → Premium. A typical attached two-car garage → Plus. A rental, a second garage, or a tight budget → Basic. Every one of them beats a 15-year-old chain drive the day it goes in.

What the myQ app actually does for you
This is why David stopped installing “dumb” openers. Every model here connects to your Wi-Fi and the free myQ app on your phone.
Why David installs LiftMaster
David installs and repairs all major opener brands. He puts LiftMaster on his own jobs for practical reasons, not marketing ones: the DC motors and belt drives stay quiet through Minnesota’s temperature swings, the myQ platform is the one customers actually keep using after the first week, parts and remotes are easy to get, and the warranties are long – lifetime on the Premium motor and belt. The new Security+ 3.0 generation added the camera and Bluetooth pairing – the opener is set up from the phone, no ladder.
Every install includes removing the old unit, a new rail sized to your door, mounting, wiring to your existing outlet, the safety sensors, force and travel limits, programming the remotes, wall control and keypad, connecting myQ to your Wi-Fi, and a balance check on the door itself – a heavy or unbalanced door is what kills openers, and David will tell you if your springs need attention first.
Not sure whether your current opener is worth repairing? If it hums but does not move it is usually the gear; if it reverses on the way down it is the sensors or the logic board. On a unit older than 10–15 years, David will show you the repair price next to the installed price of the Basic 2220L and let you decide.

How an opener install goes
Two of the most common reasons owners of older openers upgrade: a fixed-code remote that lets the door open by itself, and a failed receiver behind a remote or keypad that no longer works. Security+ rolling code and a fresh logic board solve both.
Frequently asked
How much does a LiftMaster opener cost installed in Minneapolis–St. Paul?
Installed, the three models run from about $650 for the Basic 2220L to $1,500 for the Premium 6690L – opener, rail, accessories, labor and haul-away included. David confirms the exact number before the work starts, and our Twin Cities price guide has the general ranges for opener repair and replacement.
Will my old remotes and HomeLink work?
Security+ 3.0 openers ship with new encrypted remotes; most older LiftMaster remotes will not pair with them. HomeLink version 4 and newer (most vehicles from the mid-2010s on) programs normally. David programs everything before he leaves.
Do I need Wi-Fi in the garage?
A 2.4 GHz signal that reaches the opener. If your router is at the far end of the house, a cheap extender solves it – David will check the signal during the install.
Does the camera work in a power outage?
On the Premium and Plus the door still opens on battery backup, but app control and the camera pause until power returns. The Basic 2220L has no battery backup.
Can you install a LiftMaster on my existing door?
Almost always. The one exception is a door that is badly out of balance or has a broken spring – that gets fixed first so the new opener is not lifting dead weight.
